Volunteer FAQ's
DO I NEED TO BE A BMX RIDER TO VOLUNTEER?
No, and no BMX experience is required – the only pre-requisite is the right attitude! There are roles for anyone who would like to contribute.

ARE THERE ANY PERKS FOR VOLUNTEERING?
Apart from a guaranteed good time, the chance to be part of a world class event, contribute back into the community and watching the best BMX riders in the world right here in NZ…..all volunteers will receive an event crew tee. We will provide snacks to keep fuelled for your shift and you will be invited to the Volunteer Wrap Function. Volunteering for the event is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and get a glimpse into the inner workings of the world’s premier BMX event series.
DO I GET A FREE TICKET?
We would love to have you volunteer across the full event but appreciate this is a massive commitment. If you can commit to a minimum of 2 half days then we will provide you with ticket for the remaining time to attend as spectator.
WHAT COMMITMENT DO I NEED TO MAKE?
There are two main days available for volunteers, Saturday 10th February and Sunday 11th February. (we may need some people to assist in the days before and a after to help with pack in and pack out). Timings could be up to 7am – 7pm (depending on the role) so we have split these into 2 half days as we appreciate this is a long day. The times below are estimated until our shcedule is confirmed:
Shift 1 - 7.00am - 12:30pm
Shift 2: 12noon - 6.00pm
We will ensure that there are regular breaks scheduled. You will also be asked to attend a volunteer briefing / training session in the week leading up to the event. More details on this to follow.
WHAT TYPE OF ROLES ARE AVAILABLE?
All volunteers have the ability let us know if you prefer an area to volunteer in. We will do our best to accommodate, but it may not always be possible. Areas include:
-
Protocol and Ceremonies
-
Ticketing and Front of House
-
Rider and Team Support
-
Media
-
Track Assistant
-
Hospitality
-
Parking Management
-
Access Management
-
General event support
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY VOLUNTEER DAY?
We suggest that you consult the forecast ahead of time and dress appropriately for the weather conditions and your role. You will be provided with more details on your specific role at the volunteer briefing. You will also receive your event crew shirt and access accreditation at the briefing.
Wear comfortable shoes to all shifts – indoors or outdoors. It’s handy to carry a backpack with the following: hat, cell phone, sunscreen, water bottle, lunch, camera, jacket/sweater, and umbrella. Weather can change drastically throughout the day.
IS THERE A MINIMUM NUMBER OF SHIFTS I NEED TO COMMIT TO?
We are looking for people to commit to a minimum of one of the two days.
HOW LONG ARE THE SHIFTS?
The volunteer shifts range can be up to 12 hours.
WILL I BE OUTSIDE ALL DAY?
Due to the nature of the venue and the sport of BMX, most of our roles are outside. Even if you’re signed up for an indoor shift, please be prepared to be outdoors as sometimes your responsibilities will require you to work both.
WILL FOOD BE PROVIDED FOR ME?
Yes, we will make sure you have enough food to keep you fuelled for your volunteer shift. Please make sure you bring your own water bottle. There will be refill stations available on site.
CAN I VOLUNTEER IF I’M UNDER 18?
Yes. The minimum age to volunteer is 16.

WHEN WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE BEEN SELECTED?
